[PLEASE NOTE: I am haole myself. So I'm not going to endorse, let alone create, something that's going to get me hurt. I'm too much of a sissy.

I also want to be clear that I love the mix of races and cultures that make Hawaii such a great place to live. It's not the beaches or the weather that keep me here, it's the way of life.]

MAKE ‘KEEL HAOLE DAY’ A STATE HOLIDAY NOW!

WHY SHOULD WE SUPPORT THIS?

This is part of an effort to keep Old School Island culture alive. We’re losing pieces of local culture from a number of factors: local businesses closing, a wave of new residents & explosive growth in general. We want to hold onto some of the things that have defined life here. Our plan: Remind the locals and teach the malihinis. Future efforts include Rebuilding the Sky Slide, changing Macy’s back to Liberty House & passing a law to allow people to go to work barefoot.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF KEEL HAOLE DAY?

The Average American is 10 pounds heavier than they were a decade ago. One major problem in getting people to exercise is that they find it so boring. Keel Haole Day will help solve that. Non-Haole races and cultures will unite to get out and join in the fun! The excitement of the chase will keep people on the go long after they normally would have given up. And, as a recognized holiday, most Islanders will have the day off, so no excuses for not getting involved.

Haoles will reap the benefits of a day outside, too. There’s no greater inspiration to keep going than crowds of people hot on your trail! In addition to getting healthy, haoles will develop razor-sharp survival skills. It’s a win-win proposition!

WON’T PEOPLE GET HURT?

Absolutely not. Here, ‘keeling’ will be in the tradition of the popular college game ‘Assassin’ or a spirited game of tag. Haoles who are caught will be tagged and then released onto the streets of Waikiki. The hotel/chain store environment there is a safe, familiar one for them.

I’M HAPA WHAT SIDE WOULD I BE ON?

That’s up to you. This day is about keeping an Island tradition alive. If you want, you could play on one side for part of the day and then switch over. You’ll get both perspectives and have twice the fun!
